Telia connects Clear Channel's digital billboards

As a leading company in digital outdoor advertising, Clear Channel continuously drives the industry forward. Using IoT technology from Telia, they've successfully connected most of their digital displays online, enabling a fundamental shift in their business model.

Fast remote updates

Today, customers can display dynamic content directly on many of Clear Channel's digital outdoor screens. Updating content remotely and in real time has also become straightforward. However, with Clear Channel operating a large number of digital billboards streaming content 24/7 across the country, the new approach brings challenges. The volume of data flowing through the system is greater than ever, and sufficient capacity is essential to ensure all active campaigns display the correct content – something the previous system couldn't support.

Telia provides connectivity for different use cases. With Telia's platform, we can even switch between networks to always get the strongest signal. This gives us the flexibility we need to keep our screens performing at their best.

Clear Channel has now upgraded its screen management system to be powerful and flexible enough to support a new, more demanding business model. The goal was to enable real-time response, significantly increase uptime on their advertising screens, and ultimately reduce operating costs.

A platform built with Telia

Working with Clear Channel, Telia developed a platform for SIM card management and communication using IoT Connect, Telia's IoT platform for applications requiring high data capacity. Telia's management portal now provides clear visibility and simplified management of Clear Channel's digital signage across the Nordics. The portal is also used for screens still running older hardware and software. When a screen fails, Clear Channel can immediately shut it down and dispatch a technician. And if signal strength is weak, they can temporarily switch to roaming on other networks to ensure maximum uptime.

The new platform also provides 10 GB allocation per SIM card and the ability to easily share data between screens across all four Nordic countries. Clear Channel now has full control over its digital signage and can reliably manage large volumes of data.

We need to react quickly when something goes wrong, and Telia's IoT management portal is very useful for that.

Clear results

With Telia's IoT Connect offering available across the Nordics, Clear Channel now has the technical capabilities to offer customers a platform for more demanding and dynamic campaigns. It also enables them to manage their growing network of digital signage more efficiently, lowering operating costs.

With this approach in place, nothing prevents the company from applying its new unified platform to other European markets and capturing a larger share of the digital outdoor advertising industry.

No other IoT provider than Telia could offer us such a flexible platform, combined with the terms we have today.
