Telia enables sustainable travel on half of all buses in Sweden
Sustainable public transport is critical to managing the impact of climate change. Telia's Smart Public Transport offerings help Nordic transit authorities and operators optimize operations and reduce emissions. According to analysis from Berg Insight, the number of public transport buses in the Nordic region using Telia's IoT technology onboard continues to grow.
Over Half of Sweden's Public Transport Buses Now Connected
In Sweden, 51% of public transport buses are now connected with Telia Smart Public Transport services, according to independent analyst firm Berg Insight. In Finland, that figure is 25%, while in the newer markets of Norway and Denmark, it's 7% and 6% respectively.
Digitalization is critical to building more efficient and sustainable public transport, and I'm proud that we're driving this development across the Nordics together with our customers. In 2023, we connected nearly 700 buses operating in the Nordic region. And those numbers will continue to grow – 450 Telia-connected buses will be in service during 2024, and more than 760 in 2025.
A Complete Offering with Digital Services and Operational Data for Public Transport
Telia offers public transport services that include onboard digital services, vehicle data, operational data, and vehicle connectivity. This enables public transport operators and authorities to plan and optimize their operations while improving the experience for both passengers and drivers.
The services include features for economical and sustainable driving, onboard climate control, and vehicle health monitoring – delivering both cost and environmental benefits by reducing energy and fuel consumption. At the same time, they enable insights for proactive vehicle maintenance. For passengers, services like real-time travel information, infotainment, and a modern, smart ticketing system make public transport easier and more attractive.
