Always connected – always safe with Sensorem's smart safety alarm
Sensorem's smartwatch with personal alarm gives seniors greater independence in daily life. With Telia's IoT connectivity, the watch works both indoors and outdoors – wherever the user is in the world.
A new era in elderly care
We're living longer, and that's creating new demands on healthcare and elderly care. Within 15 years, the number of people over 80 is expected to more than double. An aging population brings new demands on both resources and staff – a challenge many countries are now facing.
Sensorem wants to be part of the answer. Since 2019, the Stockholm-based company has been developing technology that makes life easier for older adults and their families. Co-founder Bobo Delemark saw the need firsthand when his aging relatives became increasingly dependent on those around them as their health declined.
Bobo realized that new technology and modern connectivity have the potential to transform traditional elderly care. When it comes to digitalization, older people are often left out – despite the fact that modern technology offers many ways to support them and their families.
Telia's services give us security, stability, and efficiency. Thanks to automated processes and excellent support, we don't have to spend much time managing connectivity and SIM cards for IoT.
"I saw an opportunity to develop an alternative to traditional safety alarms for older adults – an IoT device with multiple smart features that's still easy to use for people with little or no digital experience. It was also important to create a product that could stay connected and be used anywhere, even outdoors," says Bobo Delemark.
When Sensorem launched its smartwatch for seniors – with features like safety alarms, GPS tracking, inactivity alerts, voice calls, and medication reminders – it quickly attracted interest from both individuals and elderly care organizations. The smartwatch is sold directly to older adults and their families, but Sensorem has also partnered with several municipalities across Sweden.
"We offer a comprehensive service that can improve quality of life for older adults by enabling them to be more independent and active, and hopefully stay in their own homes longer. It also gives families peace of mind – they can receive an alert if something happens and call their relative through the watch at any time," explains Bobo Delemark.

Minimize risk and maximize efficiency
Sensorem initially connected its devices using SIM cards from a third-party provider. But as the business grew, they chose to partner with a larger operator instead. With Telia Managed IoT Connectivity, Sensorem's smartwatches automatically send and receive data, SMS, and voice calls over 4G, also known as LTE.
"Telia really enables digitalization and has the most reliable connectivity. That's especially important because many of our customers live in rural or more remote areas. Keeping our devices constantly connected can ultimately be the difference between life and death," says Bobo Delemark.
With the current setup, Sensorem's smartwatches stay reliably connected throughout Sweden, as well as the rest of the Nordic region and Europe. Coverage is also strong in other select countries that Sensorem's customers typically visit.
"The ability to use country-specific settings for Telia's IoT services also minimizes the risk of fraud. Overall, Telia's services give us security, stability, and efficiency. Thanks to automated processes and excellent support, we don't have to spend much time managing connectivity and SIM cards for IoT."
Connectivity that supports growth and innovation
With Telia Managed IoT Connectivity, Sensorem can offer a scalable service that makes it easy to expand to more customers and markets. Given how quickly society is digitalizing, Sensorem has high ambitions for the future.
"Our entire society is moving toward an even more digital future, and there's every indication that elderly care won't be the only sector that can benefit from greater connectivity. Digitalization in general, and IoT in particular, has the potential to make the job both easier and more efficient for elderly care staff. That gives society better tools to handle the challenges of an aging population," says Bobo Delemark.
Sensorem is also continuing to develop its product. A complex software feature that recognizes the relationship between fall height and speed is currently in development. With that feature, the smartwatch will be able to detect and alert if a user falls. Bobo Delemark explains:
"It's a unique and important feature, because we know that falls are a common cause of injury and death among older adults. We'll continue exploring more smart features, like connecting the smartwatch to other sensors in the home – all to help older people and their families feel greater peace of mind in everyday life."
